Partnering with the frontrunner in computer science research
In the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), Design Education transcends the boundaries of conventional learning through the integration of Engineering Robotics, Product, and Digital Design. It involves the seamless integration of the Carnegie Mellon curriculum, thoughtfully aligned with the IBMYP framework, to foster the development of Design Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills that include research, communication, critical thinking, collaboration, Self-management, and social skills.
Starting in Grade 6, students embark on a journey of exploration and innovation. They delve into the world of robotics, where they create and code navigational robots for a factory setting. As they progress through the program, each grade level presents a unique challenge, from crafting and coding an assistant VEX IQ robot in Grade 7 to designing and coding a surveillance robot in Grade 8. By Grade 9, students focus on building and coding maintenance robots, and in Grade 10, they tackle the ultimate challenge of designing and coding navigation systems for robots in extreme environments. This holistic approach to design education not only equips students with technical skills but also nurtures their problem-solving abilities, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the impact of design in a rapidly evolving world.
