Grade 8 Unit 3 Service in Action

As a part of Unit 3 Summative Assessment, our Grade 8 students studied about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as set by the United Nations. They had to choose one SDG to focus on and engage in community service in order to achieve the goal. For this, our students organized fund-raising events, created posters and social media blogs to spread awareness and finally spent an evening with students in need from Solmaid, BSCF, and FFC, our partner schools for service activities, on Thursday, March 28, 2024. They organized various activities to engage with the visiting students and had Iftar with them.
It was a completely student-led initiative where students planned and executed every single step: prepared a budget, raised funds, purchased gifts and planned all the activities for the evening to spend with students from partner schools, followed by a wonderful Iftar.
Our Grade 8 students also ran collection drives for clothes, stationary, toys and food in which they urged our school community members to donate whatever they could. It was a big success. From the money raised through fund-raising, our students purchased stationary supplies, sports goods, and snacks. All this was donated to our partner schools after Iftar.
In order to be graded for their Summative Assessment, students will prepare a website for public awareness in which they will be talking about their chosen SDG and explain the entire planning and execution of the Service Day Program at ISD.
