Varsity Girls Soccer and Boys Basketball Shine at AISD Tournaments

The Varsity HS Girls Soccer team demonstrated exceptional talent at the recent AISD soccer tournament, where they faced off against Grace International and AISD. Their brilliant performance earned them a spot in the finals, where they played Grace in a nail-biting match. Despite an early lead, the game ended in penalties after a late equalizer, and though the team narrowly missed out on the championship by one penalty, their efforts were commendable. Special mentions go to Mady Barnaart, named Best Goalkeeper, and Andrea Oviedo, recognized as the Best Midfielder. Congratulations to all players for their dedication and hard work throughout the season.
Meanwhile, the Boys Varsity Hawks Basketball Team participated in the AISD Basketball Meet with six teams. Competing in AISD’s top division for the second consecutive year, they faced off against some of the best high school teams from around Dhaka. After a tough start with two losses, the team found their rhythm and won their fourth match by just two points in an exciting finish. Finishing 5th overall, the team secured their first win in the top division, a promising sign for the future. The team included four Grade 9 students and two Grade 11 players, building a foundation for sustained success in years to come.
A special mention goes to Wayne Akiko, Carlos Otieno, and Shahyaan Mohammad, all in their final DP year, for their dedication to the Hawks Basketball program over the last two years. Faizan Haque was instrumental in all games, earning a spot in the All-Star Selection Team. Although the boys faced challenges at the start, their improved performance toward the end of the tournament was evident, capped off by a hard-fought victory against a Basketball Academy school. The future looks bright for Hawks Basketball!
