In preparation for the transition to Grade 6, all Grade 5 students will take the CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test).
The CAT4 is designed to provide valuable insight into how students learn and their academic potential. It assesses thinking in areas known to impact learning:
Verbal Reasoning (thinking with words)
Non-Verbal Reasoning (thinking with shapes and patterns)
Quantitative Reasoning (thinking with numbers)
Spatial Ability (mentally visualizing and manipulating images)
Unlike the MAP test, which measures student growth in Reading and Math, CAT4 focuses on cognitive strengths and learning preferences.
Grade 5 students will complete the CAT4 assessment on April 28 in their classroom. Each section takes about 45 minutes. All students are expected to attend on this day.
