Grades 9 and 10 End of Year Exams

As we approach the last few weeks of this academic year, it is time once again for our Gr 9 and 10 students to prepare for core subject exams to be held in  May. Please be reminded that these are NOT Final exams for the year, but are considered a ‘type’ of assessment in line with MYP philosophy. Below are the objectives and nature of the in-school examinations for MYP Gr 9 and 10:

Objective of in-school MYP examinations 

• To provide students a chance to become familiar and practice being in exam conditions
• To offer exam practice in the 5 core MYP Subjects: Language & Literature, Language Acquisition, Math, Science and Individuals & Societies.
• To provide one ‘type’ of assessment that is under formal examination conditions.

Nature of of in-school MYP examinations 

• Assessments will address one or more  of the MYP subject criteria and will be based on the concepts, knowledge and skills  covered in classes.
• The exam grades have no extra value or weighting than a MYP regular summative assessment or assignment.
• Exam criteria grades will be factored into the term report and will follow the MYP assessment criteria only.
• The exams are mandatory and all students are expected to attend these exams – no further exam opportunities will be provided to students.

All exams will  last for 1.30hrs but in total with pre-exam instructions and setting up, a session will take approximately 2 hrs in total.- the first exam begins at 8.00AM. We request all parents to work in partnership with the school by ensuring that your child wakes up early and leaves home, after a healthy breakfast, to arrive at school before 8.00AM. This will help students to stay calm and mentally ready to take their exam without having to rush in late.

To maintain the integrity of the exams, we are unable to provide any extra time or exceptions to late students. We are modeling these exams in the IB DP format – which has very strict rules that our students need to gradually become familiar with for their future success.
