Interdisciplinary teaching and learning is a central part of the MYP Programme. At each year of the MYP, students are expected to engage in an Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU). These units cover concepts, skills and knowledge from two different subject disciplines, allowing students to integrate their learning in order to create new understanding. IDUs allow students to explain a phenomenon, solve a problem or create a product in ways that would have been unlikely through a single discipline. Our Grade 6 students completed an Interdisciplinary Unit named ‘Life on Earth’, Integrating Individuals & Societies and Science subjects. Students explored how life on Earth evolved by exploring the history and science behind the evolution of man. As a culminating activity to demonstrate their understanding, students created a timeline showcasing 10 major events in the evolution of life on Earth. As term 2 progresses, other grade levels in the MYP will be exploring Interdisciplinary units based around different subjects. This will include units between English and I&S, Math and Design, PHE and Design.Student work sample
