ISD Students Explore Media Impact!

ISD Students Explore Media Impact!
Our Grade 4 students are learning about Digital Citizenship and the role of #media in shaping communities, as part of their Unit of Inquiry. Mr. James Kabir Head of Creative at ISD, was invited as a Guest Speaker and to answer first-hand questions form our young learners. He shared valuable insights and answered several questions such as, what makes a good picture or photo, and piece of media? What colors and fonts are best to use? How to ensure the content is understood by the audience and where is the best place to share it for maximum engagement? Thank you to Mr. Martin Cusworth, Grade 4 Homeroom Teacher, for hosting a fabulous learning experience for students and staff!

  • […] On Wednesday after school, if you were to pass by Room P10, you would hear joyful cheers and witness great teamwork. The GeoGuessr World Wanderers ASA is a big hit with our amazing students. Each brings their own device to participate in a GeoGuessr Party, led securely by Mr. Martin. We are dropped into different locations worldwide and must work together to identify where we are by examining Google Images. Can we spot landmarks, street signs or businesses to help us? What other online images match our location? Our journey has spanned the globe – from India to New Zealand, from Colorado to Coleraine. Every week, we edge closer to each precise location and earn even more points. Moreover, our geography skills are blossoming nicely! It’s so much fun! This activity is a highlight of the week for many of us, including our teacher. […]

  • […] Pre-K students had a wonderful opportunity to join Grade 5 students for buddy reading in the library. They have been practicing how to read with a partner by sitting knee to knee and elbow to elbow, keeping the book in the middle. They have been learning to “read” pictures by carefully observing the illustrations in a book to understand the story, identify characters, actions, and settings, and predict what might happen next. This helped them practice peer reading skills while enjoying stories with their older buddies. For the Grade 5 students, working with younger students is an important part of our leadership focus.  We are beginning to understand that as older students we are role models to the younger learners in the school and working with our buddy class helps us to develop these skills.  Here we are fostering a love of reading which should be enjoyable for all and cannot wait for our next session together.
