The ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said, “The only constant in life is change.” We have had a creative change in Primary this year; the Music and Drama programs which used to be separate classes have been combined into one category, Performing Arts. What does this mean for your Primary student’s arts education?
More Transdisciplinary Teaching and Learning
As the Performing Arts team, Mr. Pijush and Ms. Stephanie, rather than separating out the disciplines of Music and Drama have built units integrating them. One unit may have more of a focus on Drama or Music, but the other is always a part of it. Students are then developing multiple avenues of expression and performance skills in the same class.
Performances Developed in Class
As part of the Performing Arts curriculum, this year’s Grade 3, 4, and 5 Production will be created by students from start to finish during their Performing Arts classes. Our aim is to empower students to stage a unique and meaningful show. Our show will be performed in February as part of book week. Younger students are developing performances to be featured in assemblies and unit celebrations.
We’re honored to be on the creative journey with ISD’s students this year and hope the skills they develop in Performing Arts will serve them well their whole life long.
