Primary and Early Years students have been actively participating in House Events on Thursday afternoons throughout August and September. With a focus on student well-being and community building, students have worked within their houses to create house chants, solve puzzles, build chains, and play an oversized memory game. These house event days are filled with high spirits and a healthy dose of competition.Our next house event on October 10 will be especially exciting, as it will be entirely student-led. Our Primary House Leaders will take the reins, coordinating and leading the activities for the day. Go Hawks!
[…] Pre-K students had a wonderful opportunity to join Grade 5 students for buddy reading in the library. They have been practicing how to read with a partner by sitting knee to knee and elbow to elbow, keeping the book in the middle. They have been learning to “read” pictures by carefully observing the illustrations in a book to understand the story, identify characters, actions, and settings, and predict what might happen next. This helped them practice peer reading skills while enjoying stories with their older buddies. For the Grade 5 students, working with younger students is an important part of our leadership focus. We are beginning to understand that as older students we are role models to the younger learners in the school and working with our buddy class helps us to develop these skills. Here we are fostering a love of reading which should be enjoyable for all and cannot wait for our next session together. […]
