PYP Student-Led Conferences

This week, the ISD Primary Years Programme (PYP) community celebrated a cornerstone of our approach to learning—Student-Led Conferences (SLCs). Rooted deeply in the PYP’s commitment to student agency, these conferences offered our learners a powerful platform to take ownership of their learning journeys by reflecting on their progress and sharing their achievements with families.
At ISD, we believe that learners thrive when they are given authentic opportunities to demonstrate voice, choice, and ownership. The SLCs exemplified this belief in action. Our classrooms were transformed into engaging learning spaces where students became the leaders, guiding their parents through portfolios, inquiry projects, goal-setting reflections, and hands-on activities that highlighted the transdisciplinary nature of the PYP.
These conferences were not just a showcase of academic work—they were a window into how our students are developing as internationally minded learners who embody the IB Learner Profile. We saw courageous Communicators, Principled Thinkers, and Caring Inquirers, all proudly sharing their stories of growth across disciplines and learning experiences.
The process of preparing for the SLCs gave students time to reflect on their achievements and challenges, make connections across their learning, and take responsibility for articulating their next steps. It also reinforced key Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills such as Self-management, Communication, and Reflection—skills that are essential for success both in and beyond the classroom.
We are immensely proud of the confidence, ownership, and joy our learners displayed throughout the week. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated educators for scaffolding this process so thoughtfully, and to our ISD families for their ongoing support and engagement.
