Resilience During Uncertain Times

Here are some top tips to maintain a healthy frame of mind during uncertain times.

The last few weeks have presented all of us with changes in our normal routines, resulting in a feeling of uncertainty. The current situation in the country requires us to rely on the mental resilience we have built over the past. Resiliency is defined as the ability to adapt during difficult times. It is important to remember that one does not need to feel positive about negative situations that are taking place. Rather, it is more about developing healthy ways to go about daily routines without being overwhelmed. Here are some ways to maintain a healthy frame of mind during uncertain times:

  • acknowledge that change is a part of life
  • practice your problem-solving skills when you encounter challenges
  • keep a balanced lifestyle – allow time for school or work, and also for relaxing
  • make healthy lifestyle choices – eat well, stay hydrated, get enough sleep, exercise
  • make meaningful connections with those around you. Find time to have conversations or do something that you enjoy
  • maintain your usual routine as much as possible while making necessary changes to adapt to the current situation
  • have limited exposure to news, social media
  • express gratitude daily
  • seek help and support from family, friends or professionals
