Unit Celebration: How We Organize Ourselves

Unit Celebration: How We Organize Ourselves

Over five weeks, Grade 3 students collaborated in small groups to complete their first Unit of Inquiry (UOI) project, How We Organize Ourselves. The project explored the role of goods and services in people’s lives, delving into concepts such as money, the local economy, supply and demand, and the evolution of shops, markets, and online shopping. Students also examined the history of money and its changing role over time.

Incorporating their creativity, students designed commercials for products developed during Bangla language sessions and performed a role-play in French, simulating buying and selling scenarios to add a multicultural dimension to their learning. They also connected their understanding to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG #1 (No Poverty) and SDG #12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), reflecting on how these goals relate to the local economy and global sustainability.

During the Unit Celebration, students presented their projects to parents, teachers, and peers, sharing their knowledge and insights. Engaging in discussions about how individual and collective choices impact communities and the planet, they brainstormed actionable ways to reduce poverty and promote responsible consumption. This culminating event highlighted the students’ growth in research, communication, and critical thinking, as they explored how today’s decisions shape the future.
