US High School Diploma with IB Courses Pathway
SECONDARY HANDBOOK FOR PARENTS
The U.S. Diploma and IB Courses Pathway at ISD
The U.S. High School Diploma with International Baccalaureate (IB) Courses pathway is one of two pathways for grades 11 and 12 students (ages 16-19). The ISD High School Diploma is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and allows students to gain admission to universities all around the world. The ISD High School Diploma is equivalent to 10+2 Indian boards per the Association of Indian Universities.
Students earn credits towards the ISD graduation requirements by successfully completing courses from the school’s IB Diploma Programme (DP) course offerings to build a challenging and interest-based academic program.
- Students begin earning credits towards graduation in their MYP4 and MYP5 years (grades 9 and 10)
- In grade 11, students choose six IB courses to complete in grades 11 and 12
- The courses may be all Standard Level (SL) or a mix of SL and up to three Higher Level (HL) courses across subject groups
- All IBDP courses involve internal and external assessments
- Students in this pathway participate in Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) but are exempted from Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay which are requirements of the IB Diploma pathway.
DP courses are academically rigorous and students who complete the course of study in an IB subject are eligible to take exams for individual subject certificates. Universities may award course equivalent credit upon entry for students who earn scores of 5 or higher on a scale of 7 on IB exams.
