FOBISIA SWIM MEET 2023, Bangkok Patana

The ISD Hawks were invited to be guest participants at the FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) Swimming Meet 2023 hosted by Bangkok Patana International School from 26 Jan to 30 Jan 2023. The Swim Meet had 740 students from 23 schools from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Laos and of course Bangladesh.

ISD had 8 swimmers participating in 8 events each. They were Dishan Hasan from Grade 5W, Josefien van der Wielen and  Saanvi Maithani from Grade 6, Mashreka Sultana Wajiha, Shakil Sadar Kamiss and Md. Wazed (Munsif) Zafeer Al Musa from Grade 7, Aaliyah Noor Kamiss, Grade 9, and Isha Yasmine Ben Abdallah from Grade 10. 

The FOBISIA Swimming Invitational was held on a long course which means all events take place in a 50 meter long pool. The competition was very tough and there were many competitors for each event. Some events like the 50 meter Freestyle had 41 heats and that means there were 320 swimmers ages ranging from 9 to 18 competing together in that one event. Each of our swimmers gave their best even though a few of them were still feeling under the weather. Although we did not win any medals, our swimmers all improved on their personal best times. Overall, it was a very educational experience for our athletes to compete at such a large and prestigious event.
