ISD Alumni Noshin Tarannum Shares her Journey to Becoming a Barrister
ISD graduate from the Class of 2016 Noshin Tarannum spoke to current ISD students in Grades 6-12 during the Model United Nations (MUN) CCP led by Ms. Syeda Sultana Razia on 4 May. Noshin participated in MUN while at ISD, attending various international conferences, chaired debates, organized DHAMUN as the Secretary-General, and participated in the Bangla Club and SCR before being admitted to City University London in the UK to study law. After completing her LLB (Bachelor of Laws) in 2019, she began the BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) and then went on to earn the LLM (Master of Law). In November 2020, Noshin successfully passed the bar to become a barrister and is currently completing an internship in corporate law. Noshin shared her preparation, including the courses she took at ISD, and her advice for students considering careers in law or study in the UK. ISD Faculty appreciate Ms. Noshin Tarannum’s participation and willingness to share her knowledge and experience with current ISD students.

Virtual graduation: a real, certain solution for uncertain times
International School Dhaka celebrated the 2021 graduation virtually on Thursday, 3 June. ISD faculty have been exploring the idea of a virtual graduation ceremony as one of many ways to celebrate this important tradition with our graduates and families. While Bangladesh remains locked down and our students continue learning online, the Graduation Committee used various platforms in our attempts to “bridge the distance.” During the ceremony, our Director, Kurt Nordness, Secondary Principal, Chris Boyle, Vice-Principal, Nilanthi Das, Diploma Coordinator, John Drury, student selected guest speaker, Dan Popescu, and the College Counselors, Ms. Ellen Johnston and Tasnuva Ahmed, conveyed their messages and good wishes to the graduating Class of 2021 consisting of 11 young women and 12 young men.
Last year ISD celebrated the graduation ceremony live from school, but ISD has organized it as a pre-recorded ceremony this year. ISD is hoping to move back to our previous in-person graduation ceremony for the Class of 2022. However, we remain online until the government allows a return to campus. So to the Class of 2022, you may begin brainstorming graduation plans for a year from now.
