Nursery Students Get Muddy

In Nursery, we read the book “Muddy Puddle” by Robert Munsch. This story is about a little girl who got dirty as a puddle kept on finding and chasing her. Nevertheless, she solved the problem by cleaning herself with soap. The story connects with Nursery because we also get messy when we play. Actually, we go through numerous sets of clothes in the classroom every day. But, we are learning a lot especially when we get dirty. For example, we also played with mud like the little girl in the story. Oh, boy! Did we learn new words like sticky, yucky, and slimy! We also communicated how the mud felt in our hands, like hard, soft, and dirty. Our teachers allowed us to use different tools and toys to play and explore using mud. Some of us did not like the feeling of mud, so we took paintbrushes and painted with it. Some of us who liked touching added it to toys to make them supertoys.

Some of us also made baked goods, like cupcakes. Actually, some of us did not really want to touch or play with the mud. But we saw how much fun our classmates were having which gave us the confidence to play with it. Not all of us played with the mud, but that’s okay according to Mr. Long and Ms. Nayali. In the end, our teachers gave us the choice to express how we felt about the activity, listened to our choices, and respected them by providing us space to explore with or around the activity. The joy of learning in Nursery is precious!
